Mrs Bateman

We are pleased to announce that Champlain’s very own Dianne Bateman, has been selected as the winner of the PERFORMA Award for the Quality of Production and Pedagogical Intervention in College Teaching-Anglophone component, as part of the annual Faculty of Education’s Prix d’excellence en éducation ceremony awards. Dianne Bateman is a pioneer in the development of PERFORMA’s Anglophone colleges’ continuing education programs. Her contribution to the elaboration of these programs comes from her curriculum coherence expertise, much needed for a program approach. Over the years, she participated in the design of numerous courses and produced concept mapping schemes for the training of PERFORMA resource persons. In addition, Mrs. Bateman has played an important role in the development of the evaluation and assessment field. More broadly, she took part in the organization of the 201 International Society of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference, held at Concordia University, and in the launching of The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She has also collaborated in the development of two brand new PERFORMA programs: the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching and the Graduate Diploma in College Teaching. Once again a big congrats to Mrs. Bateman for her contribution to college education. Champlain College Saint-Lambert is very proud of you!

Canada’s top collegiate men’s soccer teams will battle for a national title at Champlain College Saint-Lambert in 2015. Champlain College Saint-Lambert and the Cavaliers have been awarded the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s Men’s Soccer National Championship, which will be held November 11-14, 2015. The college has hosted a number of events in recent years, including the 2012 Cross-Country Running National Championships and the 2014 CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship. “We look forward to this opportunity, once again, to promote the CCAA and the sport of men’s soccer,” said Vince Amato, Saint-Lambert’s Athletic Director. Saint-Lambert is the largest of the three campuses that make up Champlain Regional College. The school is located on the South Shore of Montreal. The Intercollegiate Athletic Program at Saint-Lambert has a long tradition of excellence. In recent years, men’s soccer, men’s basketball and cross-country running teams have been ranked nationally. Champlain Saint-Lambert is also the only team from La Belle Province to win a CCAA gold medal in Men’s Soccer (2007). Amato is confident the college will embrace this event. “We have a proud tradition in education and athletics,” he said. “By tying in the experiential learning from hosting events like this to classroom curriculum, we believe that we can offer a truly satisfying educational experience to our students and provide a lasting memory for the student-athletes who participate.” Sheridan College of the OCAA will host the event in 2014.

After a year of organizing many sustainability activities and projects, Champlain College Saint-Lambert has attained Level 2 certification as a Cégep Vert du Québec for 2014-2015. This environmental certification program was created 10 years ago by Environnement Jeunesse (EnJeu) specifically for colleges. In order to obtain this certification the following objectives had to be attained: Create an Advisory Committee on the Environment (the Go Green Working Group) with members representing all sectors of the community (students, teachers, staff) Develop a Sustainable Development Policy Organize environmental awareness-raising activities and receive training on sustainable development Draw up an environmental assessment that lists achievements and areas to be improved Draw up an action plan One way to improve sustainability is through education. Already, in many of its courses, Champlain is integrating environmental and sustainability education. Along with our green efforts and practices, we are well on our way of bettering the lives of our college community.
